Copacabana Beach

Affectionately nicknamed by the locals as the Little Princess of the Sea, after a popular song by Brazilians João de Barro – known as Braguinha – and Alberto Ribeiro, Copacabana Beach is located in the neighborhood of the same name, in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Copacabana has bike racks, a bike path, kiosks, hotels, bars and restaurants, which are popular both day and night. It also has two military forts, one at each end of the beach, with panoramic views, open to visitors.

The beautiful Avenida Atlântica boardwalk, made of black and white Portuguese stones, is also very fascinating, forming a beautiful mosaic in the shape of waves, inspired by the Lisbon boardwalk and used by Roberto Burle Marx on the beach. It has a large infrastructure of hotels and kiosks, which attract tourists from all over the world.

The stage for the largest New Year’s Eve party on the planet, with its world-famous fireworks, Copacabana attracts more than three million people every New Year’s Eve. Its sands also host grand events such as the Rio 2007 Pan American Games, beach soccer world championships and volleyball world championships.
